Press Release - CFOA Welcomes Welsh Assembly Decision on Sprinklers
Welsh Assembly Members voted unanimously yesterday in support of Ann Jones AM’s bid to make the installation of sprinkler systems mandatory in new homes in Wales. The LCO is now expected to pass votes in both Houses of Parliament before gaining Royal assent in the coming weeks.
CFOA President, John Bonney said, "The vote in support of the installation of sprinklers in new homes in Wales is to be welcomed. We are now closer to implementation of this groundbreaking legislation which will make Wales the safest place to live in the UK, indeed one of the safest countries the world. CFOA's position on the merits of sprinklers has been clear for a number of years and we are delighted with the undoubted benefits for the protection of life, the environment and also the added value to the economy for the people of Wales.”
Clear evidence exists which supports the installation of sprinklers particularly within schools and social housing as a means of protection for the most vulnerable members of our communities as well as protecting these valuable social assets. CFOA applauds the contribution of Lord Harrison to the sprinkler agenda in taking forward a Private Members Bill through the House of Lords which aims to introduce legislation on sprinkler installation within England.
"CFOA will continue to work hard to promote the sprinkler agenda across the UK and will encourage our members to continue to lobby support within their individual spheres of influence" added John Bonney.
