Policies and position statements

In order to influence fire, rescue and community prosperity CFOA harnesses the collective professional and technical expertise of its members to shape policy and to lead and manage the service across the UK. CFOA position statements will be developed and systematically revised by lead officers as issues arise. The position statements will underpin CFOA's messages in relation to those key issues. CFOA's policy or position on key issues will be communicated to Members and stakeholders.

Policies and Guidance

CFOA Members work together and in partnership with stakeholders to develop national strategic, operational and technical policies and guidelines. CFOA Members are encouraged to adopt these policies and implement them in their respective fire and rescue services in England and the devolved administrations where it is appropriate to do so.

Position Statements

CFOA has developed concise and unambiguous short position statements on key issues in order to communicate the Association's official stance. CFOA's views are communicated to members in the expectation that, subject to local circumstances, CFOA members will adopt positions within their own organisation. Position statements are clear on the relevance of the statement to the devolved administrations noting any exceptions such as differing legislation.

Position statements are publicly available on the website. CFOA communicates the Association's position statements to external audiences to inform stakeholders of the professional opinion of the leaders of the fire and rescue service to influence government and stakeholder policy and activity.

Background information, sometimes sensitive or confidential, will feature on the members' only pages of the website and access levels are set as appropriate.

Fire Safety Law

The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 came into effect in October 2006 and replaced over 70 pieces of fire safety law.
